SB-83: Changes to Paid Family Leave Benefits

Changes To Paid Family Leave (PFL) Benefits: Now 8 Weeks Extension

Changes To Paid Family Leave (PFL) Benefits: Extension of Maximum Duration Up to 8 Weeks

On June 27, Gov. Gavin Newson signed the SB-83, which establishes an extension to the maximum duration of paid family leave (PFL) benefits offered to eligible individuals. Effective July 1, 2020, the duration will increase from six weeks to eight weeks.

While this is a state-paid benefit within the SDI program, employers should be aware of the length of time that individuals may be eligible to receive PFL benefits to care for an injured or ill family member, or to bond with a new child.
