Exempt Positions and Timekeeping

Exempt Staff, Exempt from Timekeeping

It is critical that employers properly classify Exempt employees – as you know, not everyone meets the criteria to be Exempt. Furthermore, it’s important that you are properly navigating such an arrangement. One of the most common errors we see with Exempt employees is that employers are still requiring them to submit to Timekeeping. The salary you pay that employee is not indicative of any number of hours to be worked, but rather the execution of their duties and responsibilities.
In some industries, it may be appropriate to have the Exempt employee track hours spent on a particular assignment or task for purposes of billing/invoicing. This would not include start/end times for their workday and, in fact, actual time of day would not be necessary.
